Recap

So in the last 5 days my dad has been released early from the hospital, and has recovered significantly.

We went to my in-laws to visit for the morning and afternoon and expected to go to a birthday party that evening, only to be delayed by a cow that was in labor.  I wanted to wait around and see it, but it turned out they needed my help birthing it.  So I helped birth a calf.  I helped my parents-in-law put the cow in the break (a contraption that holds the cow's head so they can't go forward or backward or lay down), try and put chains on the calf's feet to hook a come-along to them and pull it out, then going back on that plan when she had a contraction that started working the calf out and my father-in-law grabbed on.  He pulled as much as he could, but couldn't pull any further and was losing his grip, so he called for help.  My mother-in-law has a torn rotator cuff and couldn't help with anything manually like that.  So I jumped in and grabbed the legs and pulled as hard as I could.  I had previously grabbed the cow's tail and held it away from my father-in-law's head because he was getting smacked, so my hands were already kind of gross.  I had pulled up my sleeves and fortunately didn't get any on me (I don't think).  I sure did smell like cow though when I got home.  It was a great day, and I posted pictures on fb about it.  Here's one of the cow and the calf when it was getting cleaned.
It was really awesome!

We actually have some friends we've been hanging out with recently.  There were new people in Sunday school on Sunday, and we ate with them on Sunday night, and then again tonight.  We got our whole Sunday school class together.  It was kind of awkward though because we couldn't all talk.  The table was too long.  Of course, we were at Chick-fil-A, so there wasn't really much place to go.  It's nice to have adults to talk to.

I've been absent from the blog for this long because I haven't really had much to say, I didn't think.  I had the cow story, but it didn't seem blog worthy.  I think I'm just overly tired.  We haven't been going to bed early enough and last night was really rough because of it being the last day of the month, and Dusty has to stay up so late.  He didn't go to sleep until 3:30.  I stayed awake as long as I could and made it til 12:30.  It stinks to have to do that much work that late at night. OK these words are coming out of my fingers, but I'm not paying enough attention to what I'm typing, I don't think.  I'll try again another time.

  1. I'm glad you haven't given up on your blog...I was beginning to wonder. I love to read of your happenings and your thoughts, and I know it is therapeutic just to vent once in a while as well. Anyway...glad your back!

BTW...We had two cows when I was between 5th and 8th grades and I witnessed several calf births. I don't remember the come-along part of it though! I was amazed how quickly the calves would get up on their legs and start to walk.
